Vernon Township High School’s HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) chapter has never qualified for the National Leadership Conference — until this year, two teams earned the distinct honor, a GoFundMe launched by current junior Avery Crafton says.
According to the campaign, two students, Daniel Lovett and Marissa Ajamian, placed second statewide in the Emergency Medical Technician competition. Meanwhile, Crafton and Sophie Van Den Broek — members of the Glenwood Pochuck Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Vernon Township Ambulance Squad — came in third place as juniors in the CPR/First Aid competition:
However, the HOSA conference takes place in Dallas from Wednesday, June 21 through Saturday, June 24, leaving Lovett and Ajamian unable to attend, as the dates conflict with their upcoming high school graduation.
Now, Crafton and Van Den Broek are hoping to make the trip to Dallas for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to represent their town and further their training.
“…these students have dedicated countless hours to serving their community,” reads the campaign. “Now, they need to kindly ask for support in return. By donating, you are providing these students with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend lectures, participate in training and compete at the national level to demonstrate their skills.”
More than $3,400 had been raised for the team’s travel expenses as of Wednesday, May 31, putting them more than halfway toward the campaign’s goal of $6,500 including an exact breakdown of how the funds will be used.
“They will bring their knowledge gained back to Vernon and Glenwood to further serve our community,” reads the campaign. “Thank you so very much!”
